Resource Information

Book Description

A version of the five areas resources aimed at people who go to Church.
Depression is so common that it has been described as 'the common cold of psychiatry'. It is particularly difficult for Christians - there is often a feeling that Christians 'shouldn't' get depressed, and that it and anxiety are the result of a poor or damaged relationship with God. I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO FEEL LIKE THIS is an empowering and practical response to such common feelings. This practical and inspirational resource is a response to one of the most challenging personal problems facing Christians - low mood. Co-written with a Christian psychiatrist and a Baptist minister the book uses the cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) approach as well as examples from the Bible to help readers tackle their low mood and anxiety. It  helps the reader to understand why they feel the way they do, and to draw on God's love and grace to find a path through depression and anxiety. The authors are all Christians, and experienced counsellors and psychiatrists.

Topics covered include:
Foreword: Dave Pope (singer/song-writer)
A Christian view on anxiety and depression
Understanding anxiety and depression
Overcoming your problems
Maintaining your walk with God
How to get the most from your Church when you are feeling anxious or depressed
What about psychiatry and other mental health services?
